Violet wand

This electric toy, designed to stimulate – by warming and increasing blood flow to the upper layers of tissue – has been a popular sex aid for over a hundred years.

The Violet Wand utilises the ability of a high-voltage, high-frequency field to penetrate and stimulate the superficial layers of tissue, which can be described as a gentle tingling or prickling sensation, depending on the intensity setting. The toy consists of a transformer and moulded glass tubes (known as ‘sparklers’), which are inserted into the transformer. Four of these tubes are included in the pack (see photo). This electrosex device is also fitted with a voltage intensity regulator. It plugs into a standard mains socket; the device’s cable is 165 cm long. The violet wand is supplied in a beautiful protective box.

At the end of the nineteenth century, this electrical device was widely used in electrotherapy and became a common feature in many ordinary households. From there, it was only a short step to electrosex, where it has now found its sole use.
